Stats for the day:
· 7347 steps (on pedometer)
· 80°F at 10pm at 3880 feet in Zion Canyon Campground
· Virgin River Stream Flow Rate Peak: 177 cubic feet per second
· Horrible pictures of me sleeping in the car: 1
Matt and I enjoyed sleeping in a bit, and then packed up and walked about Vegas a little bit more. I saw the Chihuly pieces in the lobby of the Bellagio, and we had some dim sum and noodles before starting the drive to Zion. Matt took his first turn driving, and of course he was thrilled to get a great picture of me sleeping using the atlas as a blanket. I think he shared that picture on his Facebook page. What you don’t see in the picture is that I’d also managed to put pressure on my Camelbak mouth and I woke up to a soaked lap (this is not the first time the Camelbak has drenched something – I’m now very careful about how I place my bag).
We finished the drive to Zion, watching the Virgin River along the way and questioning the water level. Would we get to hike The Narrows? We set up camp just outside of the park at Zion Canyon Campground, and we got a great spot right on the river and next to a wall so only one set of neighbors. This is my second campsite to have the wonderful sound of rushing water as a background. It was a quiet night as we set up camp and made plans for the next few days.
Math thoughts for today:
· Miles per gallon your car averages and just how soon you’ll need to get gas.
· At what elevations and gradients do departments of transportation determine signage is needed?
